- Computer literate: Microsoft Suite products; heavy Excel competency; ability to learn and operate QuoteSoft.
- No minimum years required (entry‑level and early‑career welcome).
- Trade‑school background (HVAC/sheet metal/MEP) or equivalent technical training strongly preferred; degree not required
- Strong math aptitude and analytical thinking; attention to detail.
- Work history with long tenures.
- We are NOT looking for primarily carpentry or concrete backgrounds; job‑hoppiness; lack of computer proficiency candidates.
Plusses (Nice‑to‑Have)
- Prior sheet metal or commercial HVAC exposure (field or office).
- Hands‑on experience with QuoteSoft (or similar: FastDUCT, Wendes) for ductwork takeoffs.
- Vendor coordination experience (pricing, lead times, substitutions).
- Experience presenting estimates and defending methodology to stakeholders.
About the Role
We are seeking a Sheetmetal Estimator who prepares accurate cost estimates for sheet metal scope on commercial construction projects including labor, materials, and equipment. This will be by reviewing blueprints/specs, managing bids, coordinating with vendors, and collaborating with project teams to ensure budgets align with requirements.
Day‑to‑Day:
- Spec readings: Interpret drawings, specifications, addenda, and scope clarifications.
- Equipment recaps (Excel): Build and maintain equipment recap sheets and cost summaries; strong Excel usage is expected.
- Takeoffs: Complete detailed sheet metal and ductwork takeoffs (fittings, accessories, hangers, etc.).
- Estimate reviews: Present what you did, how you did it, and your thought process; capture assumptions, risks, and value‑engineering ideas.
Core Responsibilities
- Build comprehensive quantity takeoffs and assemblies using QuoteSoft (training available if new to the tool).
- Develop labor, material, and equipment pricing; track vendor quotes; perform bid comparisons.
- Prepare polished estimates and cost breakdowns in Excel (heavy formulas, structured models, and clear documentation).
- Partner with the detailers (four currently on staff) to validate quantities, sequencing, and constructability.
- Coordinate bid schedules/submittals; support RFIs and scope clarifications.
- Participate in internal estimate reviews; explain methodology and decisions.
- Maintain organized estimate files and version control for auditability and hand‑offs to project teams.
Compensation:
$70,000-$90,000/yr
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
