Job Description
Position Summary:
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to help patients recover from injuries, illnesses, and physical conditions that impact mobility and function. The PTA implements treatment plans, provides hands-on therapy, educates patients and caregivers, and supports overall rehabilitation goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Physical Therapist in implementing individualized treatment plans.
- Guide patients through therapeutic exercises, activities, and mobility training.
- Apply therapeutic modalities such as heat, cold, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and traction (as permitted by state practice acts).
- Observe patient performance, track progress, and document treatment results in medical records.
- Communicates patient status, changes, or concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Educate patients and families on exercise programs, safety procedures, and at-home care techniques.
- Maintain and organize therapy equipment and treatment areas.
- Support patient motivation and promote functional independence.
- Follow established safety protocols, regulatory guidelines, and ethical standards for patient care.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current state licensure or certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
- CPR/First Aid certification (preferred or required depending on employer).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient-care skills.
- Ability to follow detailed treatment plans and work effectively as part of a healthcare team.
- Physical ability to assist patients with mobility and therapeutic activities.
